Logistics
Getting There
Oxford is a 45 minute, direct train from London’s Paddington Station. Trains are frequent between London and Oxford, making it a very easy day trip. Tickets can easily be bought day of travel or in advance.
Getting Around
The town of Oxford is small and very walkable, but the city center is about a 20 minute walk from the train station. If you prefer not to walk this distance, catch a taxi to the center and walk around from there as the walk between the station and the city center is nothing special.
Things to do and see
Oxford University Walking Tour
The town of Oxford is largely built around the University. In order to see some of the main locations and learn about the University, consider a walking tour to get acquainted with the area. Footprints offers a nice tour led by Oxford students.

Bodleian Library
It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe and is well equipped with a vast number of books. The library can receive at least one copy of every book written in England.
Radcliffe Camera
Part of the Bodleian Library, Racliffe Camera is a picturesque building acting as the centerpiece to the city.

The Sheldonian Theatre
Building where the graduation ceremonies are held for students
Covered Market
Market with an assortment of shops and food stalls
Bridge of Sighs
The bridge connecting Hertford College running over a street (unlike the Venice Bridge of Sighs or Cambridge Bridge of Sighs over rivers).

Christ Church College
The University of Oxford is made up of many different colleges, most of which can be visited. Christ Church is one of the grandest so consider checking it out if you have limited time.

Food and Drinks
Turf Tavern
Lunch or Dinner
Check out the Bridge of Sighs and then follow the signs down a small alley to find this Tavern. Known for hosting many famous visitors, Turf Tavern is a typical British pub with food and drinks.
The Kings Arms

Located near the city center, this pub has picnic tables outside which are great for a drink on a sunny afternoon.
The Rickety Press

This pub is a perfect spot for an afternoon burger or pizza. Food is very good and it’s a cool spot to hang out in.




Other Notes
Duration
Oxford is a very easy day-trip from London and can be toured in a day. Due to its ease to get to, it’s a great opportunity to get out of the city, without requiring more than a day to explore.
Time of Year
Oxford can really be visited at any time of the year. It is a good winter option as it does not require nice weather, offering lots of flexibility on this day-trip.
