Logistics
Getting There
There are two main airports in Milan: Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate. Milan Malpensa is bigger and further outside the city with more flights, while Milan Linate is closer to the city center. Alternatively, if coming from a town in Italy or neighboring country, you can also consider taking a train to Milan with connections from all over.
Traveling from Milan Malpensa to the city center is best done by train. Catch the train from the airport to Milano Centrale or Milano Cadorna, depending on where your end destination is. Alternatively, the drive from Milan Linate to Milan is about 15 – 30 minutes, and there is also a bus option to reach the airport.
Getting Around
The city of Milan is sizable, but many of the key locations to see as a visitor are within walking distance. Plan to explore on foot to help get a feel for this metropolitan hub. When you’re tired of walking, hop on the metro or grab a taxi to your destination.
Accommodations
For visitors looking to explore the city for the first time, staying within walking distance of the Duomo is helpful. However, this means it will be quite a busy area.
Things to do and see
Milan Duomo
The Cathedral has a magnificent facade and is without a doubt, a magnificent structure. Visitors can go inside the Cathedral, but can also buy tickets to visit the roof and look out onto the surrounding areas.

The Last Supper
Painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, this famous painting is hard to get tickets to see. They control the number of people who enter the room where it is found, and only allow people to stay inside for 15 minutes. There is a secure entry where visitors must first enter one closed room, before they can then enter the room with the Last Supper painting. Often you’ll book with a tour group to see the painting as tickets are nearly always sold out.
Plan your visit in advance to ensure you can see this historical masterpiece.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
A famous shopping arcade next to the Milan Duomo, many luxury stores pay millions in rent to hold a storefront in here.

Food and Drinks
Panini De Santis – Milan
Lunch
Milan
Great panini shop to grab a sandwich on the go, or sit down and enjoy a quick lunch.

Other Notes
Duration
Milan is a big city, known for fashion and design. For those who love shopping or a big city person, it’s a place for you. If this is less your scene, a weekend trip is all you’ll need to visit key spots in the city. While an interesting city, it’s one I prefer to use as a hopping off point to other parts of Italy and thus have travelled through Milan many times to access areas outside the city.
